The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department has arrested Gregory Charles Case and his son Brandon Case, charging them with multiple crimes included attempted murder, stemming from a January 2022 shooting. D’Monterrio Gibson of Utica, Miss., told the Mississippi Free Press in February that the men confronted him as he was delivering packages for FedEx in Brookhaven, Miss.
Many are comparing the Jan. 24, 2020, alleged chase and shooting that D’Monterrio Gibson reported facing at the hands of two white men in Brookhaven, Miss., with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery on Feb. 15, 2020, in Brunswick, Ga., by a white father-and-son duo and a neighbor.Â
FedEx has reinstated pay for D’Monterrio Gibson, a Black FedEx driver who said two white men chased and shot at him on his route in Lincoln County. The 24-year-old Utica native said the incident happened while he was making deliveries in Brookhaven, Miss., on Jan. 24. While recounting the story to the Mississippi Free Press last week, Gibson said FedEx had initially asked him to return to the route after the shooting. When he declined, the company placed him on unpaid leave.
