Mississippi House Rep. Nick Bain, the Republican who authored Mississippi’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors this year, has conceded after gun store owner Brad Mattox defeated him in the Republican primary for House District 2 in Alcorn County by just 26 votes.
Mississippi House Rep. Mac Huddleston died on Sunday at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Miss., at age 79 due to multiple myeloma, his obituary says. The Republican lawmaker served District 15 as a state representative from 2008 until his death.
“As an ecologically oriented individual, environmental justice has always been an area of curiosity and passion for me, and Jackson, Miss., is a pronounced example of environmental infrastructure gone wrong,” Worth Wade Wilsey writes.
A Black Republican will sit in the Mississippi House when the Legislature reconvenes next January for the first time in 130 years after voters in Tuesday’s GOP primary selected Rodney Hall to represent House District 20.
