Even with the 2019 ban against implementing corporal punishment on students with disabilities, school districts in Mississippi have admitted to paddling children in these demographics with little consequence.
Memphis Comedian Katrina Coleman found racist stickers posted on a dumpster near their children’s predominantly Black elementary school in Memphis, Tenn. Coleman along with their children scraped them off together, using this as an example of how white parents can initiate change in a racist system by calling out white supremacy one small act at a time.

Working Together Jackson’s Lead Organizer and concerned parent Chevon Chatman challenges the JPS Board to “fight appropriately, toward the architects and gatekeepers of a system that harms children by not fully funding traditional public schools” instead of fighting one another over scraps.
“John Doe,” a Black former student of the UMMC School of Medicine, sued the school in 2021 on racial and sex discrimination allegations following his dismissal in 2019.

Former Pearl River Central High School art teacher Catherine Bass said she left teaching after the administration warned her she could be fired for discussing her LGBTQ identity with students. The administration said it was “inappropriate” for her to tell students she was pansexual.
