Mississippi paid “ghost workers” at a private company running the State-owned Marshall County Correctional Facility, Holly Springs, Miss., between 2017 and 2020, the Mississippi state auditor says.
Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain said that his agency is fixing and installing air-conditioning units at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman, Miss.

Disability Rights Mississippi is accusing the Mississippi Department of Corrections of “subjecting offenders to cruel and unusual punishments” such as the denial of medical care and the refusal to make required accommodations for inmates with disabilities.
