From dinner and drinks at Footprint Farms in west Jackson to meeting and feeding Corona the alpaca in a small town north of Laurel, agritourism is a way to build business and community. And during the pandemic, people are looking for ways to have fun outside, especially during cool fall weather.
The school in rural Rankin County can hold up to 250 students, and it is hoping to fill those spots with their “Black American Values in Action: A Virtual Fundraiser for The Piney Woods School” on Sept. 30 at 7 pm.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the Mississippi Choctaw Band of Indians harder than any major city in the nation—and 10 times harder than the rest of Mississippi. Of the 10,000 Choctaws the tribe serves, one in 10—1,092—has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium kicked off the Black Girls Dream Fund, a 10-year fundraising initiative to raise $100 million to financially support the goals and ideas of southern Black girls and women in the United States.
To help support local art, the organization is launching the Sipp Culture Artist Relief Fund to assist artists and art organizations facing economic crisis during the pandemic. The $500,000 relief fund is part of a $5-million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to the Intercultural Leadership Institute.
