CORINTH, Miss.—President Donald Trump encouraged thousands of Mississippians at a Corinth rally on Oct. 26 to vote for the Republican incumbent candidates, U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and U.S. House Rep. Trent Kelly, in the Nov. 3 election.
Most of his speech focused on international conflicts, like the 2026 war with Iran, which he often confused with the 2003-11 war with Iraq; the White House renovations, including the under-construction ballroom that he has championed; and politicians and candidates from other states.
Trump took numerous jabs at Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Scott Colom, reiterating Hyde-Smith’s claims that the Democrat is a “Marxist radical left Soros district attorney” who has “set loose thousands of people to destroy Mississippi.”
“I’m here because Cindy’s doing great, but I just got to make sure,” Trump said to the crowd. “I can’t take a chance.”
Colom has been heavily campaigning throughout the state over the past year while maintaining a critical disposition toward his main opponent, incumbent Republican Hyde-Smith. With the slogan “Mississippi Matters,” his efforts have received national attention and a number of prominent Democrats have appeared in Mississippi to campaign with him.
The president boasted about poverty rates in the U.S. being the lowest under his tenure. U.S. Census data show poverty rates in 2025 were 10.2% in 2025, a historic low. He asked Hyde-Smith to help increase the number of cow herds in the country, noting that “beef has gone up a little bit, but it’s starting to go down.” The price of beef has increased by 2% within a month of Trump announcing the U.S. would import more beef to lower costs for Americans.
Trump discussed his One Big Beautiful Bill, which cut Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program and food stamp funding while implementing policies for no tax on tips, social security and overtime.
Kelly, Hyde-Smith, Gov. Tate Reeves, Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Mike Hurst each briefly spoke at the rally.
“Well, everything here is on the line: Everything we have accomplished, the good things we’ve done with President Donald Trump,” Hyde-Smith said at the rally. “It’s all at stake on Nov. 3. The control of the Senate is in its fate, and President Trump needs a Republican Congress to fight alongside him.”
