Coastal volunteers spent eight days collecting trash from beaches along the Gulf Coast that artists used as materials for creating artworks displayed at the Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport that convey the dangers of pollution to oceanic environments. The exhibit, “Toxic Beauty: Plastic’s Hidden Costs,” is available through Sept. 7.

Delta Musicians Honor Blues and Gospel Traditions at Clarksdale Sunflower River Festival
Clarksdale native James “Super Chikan” Johnson has performed at the Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival at the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale every year since 1997. This year’s 35th anniversary show is from Friday, Aug. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9.
