The Mississippi Free Press is pleased to welcome Tami Jones as its new Revenue Manager. Tami is a seasoned sales and revenue-generation specialist who has worked in Mississippi newsrooms for over two decades. In her most recent role as the Mississippi Business Journal publisher, she produced events and special issues honoring business leaders across Mississippi, including the Top 40 under 40 and MBJ’s Healthcare Heroes awards.  Before becoming the Mississippi Business Journal publisher, she held key leadership positions, including Associate Publisher and Advertising Director. Jones also spent nine years at the Clarion Ledger in various sales roles and managing advertising. Her track record of success and deep understanding of the industry make her a valuable asset to the Mississippi Free Press team.

“I’ve admired Tami for years. Ad sales and media revenue generation is a tough business.  I know I did for years as the Associate Publisher at the Jackson Free Press. Tami has thrived despite the odds,” said Kimberly Griffin, Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer. “I’m excited to be working with her, and I can’t wait to see how she helps us grow and diversify our revenue.” 

Jones joins the MFP at a pivotal moment with the nonprofit organization growing rapidly helped along by recent grants from the MacArthur and Ford foundations as well as a strong base of individual donors who believe in the organization’s commitment to service through in-depth, innovative and truly inclusion journalism in Mississippi.

 “I am thrilled to join the Mississippi Free Press team. It is rare to work with award-winning journalists and a team built on diversity and inclusion,” said Jones. “My goal is to continue helping MFP thrive and increase its presence in and around Mississippi and beyond. Donna Ladd and Kimberly Griffin have done a great job, and I look forward to working with them to build new revenue streams for the organization.”

The mission of the Mississippi Free Press, a new nonprofit journalism website and multimedia network that launched in March 2020, is to publish deep public-interest reporting into causes of and solutions to the social, political and structural challenges facing all Mississippians and their communities. Mississippians need to know each other across regions and share our challenges and solutions despite geographic and other differences. We are introducing Mississippians to each other through our deep accountability reporting and compelling people-focused storytelling, and by convening online and physical “solutions circles,” using our statewide networks to ensure inclusivity and representation.
