After nearly two months on the job, I think Iโve finally decided what is my favorite part of being an editorial intern
Grammar patrol!
I love the English language. I love being a know-it-all. Therefore fixing typos and navigating the rather convoluted passageways of the Associated Press style of writing is basically one of the best parts of my day. Not that Iโm the sheriff of the grammar police yet. Or even a deputy. Iโm really more like a cadet trailing after the policemen (actually, here, itโs women) with the real guns. But there comes a moment when my little trainee self catches the difference between โfurtherโ and โfarther,โ and I SLASH! with my green pen (everybody has a different color when they edit, mine is green, a bit of trufax insider info from the JFP). You may accuse me of power-tripping, but being a smarty-pants is all I really have. In fact, in the sixth grade, the school paper voted me the class know-it-all. Some may have crawled away in shame, but I just wish I had a sash and a crown to go with my title.
So beware, all you โyaโllโ users and those of you who still canโt tell โyouโreโ from โyour,โ because Iโm a-coming!

Camaros are for beer swilling, Spam eaten, mullett wearing, 2nd cousin marrying rednecks. You need a Mustang, cause any thing else is just a car.. ๐

Well, all my errors are intentional. I don’t want people thinking I’m smart and tri-lingual – english, jive and ebonics.

Just a minute BubbaT, with all due respect, I have a Camaro (1981, mustard gold) and I’d never consider marrying my cousin. LaurenB- Wear your smarty-pants tiara and drive that Camaro PROUDLY!

It’s got to be “y’all,” with the apostrophe standing in for the “ou” in “you.” Like the apostrophe in can’t stands in for “no” in “cannot” and the one in you’re stands in for the “a” in “you are.”

Ronni, as a fellow member of the grammar patrol, I must say that you are correct. it is “y’all.” BTW, I hate it when people write “grammer” instead of “grammar.” Aaaaaaaaah!
