— Circuit Judge Richard McKenzie denied LaRita Cooper-Stokes’ request for a second trial in the Ward 3 City Council election runoff Monday.

A jury unanimously found last month in favor of Joyce Jackson, who challenged the legality of her loss to Cooper-Stokes in a February runoff election for City Council. Jackson claimed widespread violation of voting laws.

The City Council voted last week to set another election between the two for July 24.

Cooper-Stokes now plans to appeal her case to the state Supreme Court, WLBT reported Monday.
