Three things are guaranteed to make a spring weekend even better: beer, crawfish and rock โ€˜nโ€™ roll, all of which you can find at this weekendโ€™s Miller Lite Crawfish Boil at the Coliseum Fairgrounds. The rain-or-shine event brings big-name rockers Live, Staind, Three Days Grace, Puddle of Mudd and P.O.D. to Jackson, along with local up-and-comers Absence of Concern and many others. The JFP is among the sponsors.

West Virginiaโ€™s American Minor opens the festival Friday afternoon. After playing Martinโ€™s a few years ago and having their old van break down just north of Jackson, lead guitar player Bud Carroll says his band is really looking forward to playing Jackson again (this time with no glitches).

โ€œYou never get to see the same thing twice. Weโ€™re not much of a jam band, but we do improvise a lot. Especially in the South, thatโ€™s the kind of music we play, and weโ€™re glad to bring it back there,โ€ Carroll, whose birthday falls on the day of their show, says of American Minorโ€™s stage performances. After taking a few days off to relax in North Carolina, the band will be well rested and ready to rock Jackson.

On Friday, the gates will open at 4 p.m., and the stage features American Minor, Huck Johns, 10 Years, Three Days Grace, P.O.D. and Live. Gates reopen on Saturday at 1 p.m. to give way to performances by Squint, Revelation Theory, Absence of Concern, Fivespeed, Nonpoint, Street Drum Corps, Dark New Day and Puddle of Mudd. Staind will close out the festival Saturday night.

The Crawfish Boil is open to all ages, with free admission for children under 6. Tickets are $12 in advance, and VIP Mudbug Club tickets are $49 per day and include free crawfish, a separate VIP entrance and cash bar. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 601-355-5252.

Previous Comments

Not a fan of the bands but should be a great throwdown, and the rain cooled it off just enough.

Just in; 3 bands for Sat. were dropped. Staind will be performing several hours earlier. VIP Mudbug Club was NOT for all ages. Young nephews spent $100 each on VIP tickets-view was blocked by trailers, scaffolding and speakers. They went to concert for the music so spent the evening in GA area. Only injuries suffered were cut ear from flying water bottles from the back. Hate they missed JONEZETTA at Pix/Capri. And boy, do I miss those big, ole Jubilee Jam weekends!
