In my enthusiasm, I did lay it on a little thick in my intro, but this is a forum about issues as well. The 2006 legislative session is off and running and this will be a welcome place to express your opinions of what is going on at your State Capitol. Forgive my excitement and enjoy the blog.

Rep. Fleming, your excitement is one of the things that makes me glad you represent us in the state legislature. I’ve been following your career a lot lately, as I attended both the MIRA meeting where you spoke, and the reception for Sister Prejean. You are obviously a prophet. Best of luck against Sen. Lott. I’m not sure he’s beatable, but I’ve been wrong before, and this is a case where I would especially like to be wrong again. Cheers, TH

Thanks for the kind words. I hope that we make a lot of people wrong, yet happy, this year.

Mississippi native Donna Ladd and partner Todd Stauffer founded the Jackson Free Press in 2002 in the capital city. The heavily awarded local newspaper did many investigations heralded across the state and nation and served as a paper of record due to its diversity, inclusion, in-depth reporting and deep connection to readers and dedication to narrative change in and about Mississippi. In 2022, the nonprofit Mississippi Free Press, founded by Ladd and JFP Associate Publisher Kimberly Griffin in 2020, purchased the journalism assets and archives of the Jackson Free Press. A Google grant through AAN Publishers enabled Newspack's integration of the JFP archives into the Mississippi Free Press website to become part of a more searchable archive of recent Mississippi history and essential journalism.
