Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society invites the Jackson area public to participate in the first in a series of five national live broadcasts on September 30, 2004, at 7:00 pm. The broadcast will be held at the studios of the Mississippi Broadcasting Networks. The series continues on alternating weeks through the last of November.

Dr. Arnold S. Relman, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the New England Journal of Medicine and Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School is the first featured guest. He will discuss “America’s Health Care System: How Good is it and How is it Changing?” Dr. Relman’s discussion of the US health care system will provide a through overview of how the system works, who pays for it, what its major problems are, and what can be done to fix it.

Prior to the show, from 5:30-6:00, there will be a reception at the Phi Theta Kappa International Headquarters at 1625 Eastover Drive near the Mississippi Broadcasting Networks facilities off Ridgewood Road. After the reception, attendees will be directed to the studio for participation in the studio audience. Seating is limited. Please contact Garon Tate at 601.984.3555 for more information.

Mississippi native Donna Ladd and partner Todd Stauffer founded the Jackson Free Press in 2002 in the capital city. The heavily awarded local newspaper did many investigations heralded across the state and nation and served as a paper of record due to its diversity, inclusion, in-depth reporting and deep connection to readers and dedication to narrative change in and about Mississippi. In 2022, the nonprofit Mississippi Free Press, founded by Ladd and JFP Associate Publisher Kimberly Griffin in 2020, purchased the journalism assets and archives of the Jackson Free Press. A Google grant through AAN Publishers enabled Newspack's integration of the JFP archives into the Mississippi Free Press website to become part of a more searchable archive of recent Mississippi history and essential journalism.
