Based on John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning stage play, which New Stage Theatre performed last March, “Doubt” takes place in a strict Catholic school in the Bronx. The school’s principal, Sister Aloysius (played by Meryl Streep) is a staunch traditionalist opposed to the changes that the new priest, Father Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman), tries to implement. When the school’s first black student, Donald Miller, attracts seemingly too much attention from Flynn, Aloysius sets out to expose Flynn. The film has racked up several award nominations, including a Golden Globe, and if you missed New Stage’s production, now is the perfect time to see this psychological drama.
