Ward 3 Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes announced yesterday that she wants the City Council to hold weekly meetings. Right now, the council holds regular meetings every other week on Tuesdays, with special meetings on Mondays during the weeks when no regular meeting is scheduled. Here is the announcement from Cooper-Stokes, verbatim:

COUNCILWOMAN LARITA COOPER-STOKES REQUESTS CITY COUNCIL TO RETURN TO REGULAR MEETINGS EVERY WEEK

Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes of Ward Three held a press conference today to highlight an issue that she believes is timely: the return to regularly scheduled “Regular City Council Meetings” every week. Up until December of 2006, the Jackson City Council met every Tuesday with regular meetings. Cooper-Stokes believes that urgent City business and a more citizen-friendly schedule will benefit the Jackson City Council and the public.

“As the newest member of the Jackson City Council, I feel it prudent to bring this issue forward. “Regular City Council meetings” scheduled every week, as they once were, will enhance the effectiveness of the operations here at City Hall,” said Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes.
