Coca-Cola Providing Recycling at State Fair

[Verbatim] JACKSON, Oct. 1, 2008- Jackson Coca-Cola Bottling Company, in partnership with the Mississippi State Fair Commission, Hinds Community College and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, announced today plans to make recycling an option for visitors at this year’s Mississippi State Fair. Jackson Coca-Cola Bottling Company employees will place 20 recycling bins, shaped like Coca-Cola bottles, on the state fairground’s Midway near concession stands during the State Fair, October 1-12, 2008.

“I am pleased to announce that fair goers will be able to recycle their 20 oz. plastic bottles at the Fair this year,” said Mike Brinkley, Mississippi State Fair Executive Director. “Hopefully, everyone will use the recycling bins set-up along the Midway. This is a great addition to the Fair that, if successful, will be expanded next year,” he said.

Fair goers can place a variety of plastic bottles in the Coca-Cola recycling containers. Hinds County Sheriff’s Office trustees will pick up the recyclable goods and transport them back to the Hinds County Penal Farm where all of the material will be sorted, compacted and baled before it is sent off to a recycling buyer. “Recycling beverage bottles at the Mississippi State Fair is another way that the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is involved in giving back to the community while helping to expand the Hinds Community College Recycling Program,” said Captain John Hulsebosch, from the Hinds County Penal Farm. All proceeds from the recycled material will go towards the Hinds Community College Honors Scholarship Program. Additionally, Jackson Coca-Cola Bottling Company will make a $500 contribution to support the Honors Scholarship Program

“Jackson Coca-Cola is committed to giving consumers at special events the opportunity to recycle their beverage containers at all of the major special events we sponsor,” said Robert Wardlaw, Jackson Coca-Cola Sales Center Manager. The Mississippi State Fair is one of the many recycling efforts the Company is undertaking to help its parent company, Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., reach its 2010 goal of a half a billion pounds of recycled items.
