DIAMONDHEAD, Miss.—A longtime Diamondhead tradition will continue Oct. 17 as the City takes over the organization of the Hancock County city’s annual Fall Fest, accepting the responsibilities that the Diamondhead Property Owners Association had previously managed up to now.
The first city-run Fall Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City of Diamondhead Town Green. The free event will feature about 70 vendors, food trucks, DJ music, face-painting, a petting zoo and other activities.
City Manager Jon McCraw said the Property Owners Association, which had organized the event for years, was not planning to hold it this year.
“The City stepped in, decided that we would start our first annual Fall Fest for an event that’s been going on for years,” McCraw said.
Before Diamondhead became a city in 2012, the Property Owners Association handled many responsibilities in the community, McCraw said. The City has since taken on more of those duties, particularly governmental functions.
McCraw said continuing Fall Fest preserves an annual tradition for residents while giving visitors a chance to experience Diamondhead and its local businesses.
“It’s just to help promote the city as a whole,” McCraw said.
The festival also offers an opportunity to shop for unique items ahead of the Christmas season.
“Come walk through the different vendors, and you might find something unique that you just weren’t expecting,” McCraw said. “You never know: You might find that unique present that you didn’t think you would ever find.”
