“Mississippi is among the very few states that refuses to modernize the voter registration process and adopt online voter registration,” Drs. Merivaki, Baker and Chamberlain write. “This policy is now used in 42 states and Washington, D.C., so it’s unclear where the resistance comes from.”

Dr. Thessalia Merivaki is an assistant professor in American Politics in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University. She is an expert on election science, specifically on voter registration and mail voting processes. Dr. Leslie Baker is an instructor of Political Science and the undergraduate coordinator of the Department of Political Science and Public Administrator at Mississippi State University. She teaches introductory and upper-level courses in Political Science. Dr. James Chamberlain is an associate professor in Political Theory, and the director of the MA in Political Science in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University.
