The State of Mississippi will not seek the death penalty against Timothy Herrington in his second trial for the murder of Jimmie “Jay” Lee, despite the discovery of the victim’s body since his first trial.

Stacey Spiehler has been everything from a secretary to a stay-at-home mom to the president of the homeowners’ association to a homeless alcoholic to the manager of a fancy restaurant to a fully-funded scholar at the University of Mississippi. She is seeking a degree in journalism with an emphasis on social justice and political reporting and a minor in sociology. Spiehler hopes to graduate in May 2023 and go on to report on juvenile (in)justice. She is a strong advocate for people suffering from substance-use disorder and for the education rights of children with special medical needs. She is the president-elect of Families As Allies and secretary of the University of Mississippi’s Collegiate Recovery Community.
