Sara J. Brenneis is a scholar of contemporary Spain focused on cultural studies, including literature, film, history and new media. Her research is on Spain's role in World War II and the Holocaust, in particular the Spaniards who were deported to Mauthausen and other Nazi concentration camps as political prisoners. Related to this scholarly interest, she investigates the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship, activists and memorial projects, historical memory, exiles and refugees in France, artists and intellectuals, popular culture and contemporary political movements.
