Mike Espy worked on the farm bill as a member of the House Agriculture Committee from 1987-1992, and as part of President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet from 1993 to 1995, when he was the first African American to serve as the U.S. secretary of agriculture. Espy is also a former USDA secretary and former U.S. Senate candidate.
