Studies show that domestic violence calls to police and shelters in the U.S. have risen between 6% and 21% (variation depending on data source) since the start of the pandemic, with the largest increase happening the first five weeks of quarantine. Calls to shelters and hotlines have also increased.
Dr. Megan Stubbs-Richardson
Megan Stubbs-Richardson is an Assistant Research Professor at the Social Science Research Center (SSRC) of Mississippi State University (MSU). Her research interests include school bullying and research at the intersection of crime, technology and society. Megan is co-authoring a book entitled, “Bullying: Causes, Consequences and Real Solutions” (to be published in 2020) and editing a special issue on “Advances in Youth Bullying Research” to be published with Frontiers.
