The governors of Texas and Mississippi announced that they were rescinding their statewide mask mandates and allowing restaurants and other businesses to return to 100% capacity in early March. The moves come while new infection numbers in the U.S. are still higher than they were in September and just ahead of school spring breaks, known for large gatherings and crowded bars where the coronavirus can quickly spread.

Tiffany Radcliff is an associate dean for research and professor of health policy and management at Texas A&M University. Her research includes health economics, health policy, improving quality of long-term care, access to care for rural and other underserved populations, and improving care processes and outcomes. Walter Thomas Casey II is the associate Professor of Political Science at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. He conducts research on multiple public policy and political behavior problems, resulting in more than 70 conference papers and scholarly publications.
