Jessica Lynette Johnson
Jessica Lynette Johnson is a sophomore dually enrolled at UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University as a Robertson Scholar. She is majoring in Journalism and Media (UNC), Cinematic Arts (Duke), and minoring in Public Policy. As a filmmaker, Jessica was selected for the inaugural Black Girls Film Camp in 2021, where she wrote and directed the award-winning short film Color-Blind. Since then, she has worked as a creative and alumni coach for the camp in its proceeding years. Jessica's work has been showcased at several film festivals and screenings, where her storytelling and creative direction have garnered attention.
Committed to both her craft and community, Jessica received the 2021 Lark Project Grant and organized a successful youth arts showcase in Charlotte, NC, raising over $1,300 to support local arts programs. It is due to her work such as this that she was selected as a 2023 Southern Futures Fellow at UNC Chapel Hill. Most recently, Jessica furthered her journalism studies by studying abroad at City St. George's University of London, where she gained valuable international experience, broadening her perspective on media and storytelling. Jessica remains dedicated to increasing representation and inclusivity in both her work and advocacy.
