Ellen Morris Prewitt is a sixth-generation Mississippian who serves as Writer-in-Residence at 100 Men Hall in Bay St. Louis. Her work has appeared in Brevity, Image, River Teeth, Hotel Amerika, and elsewhere. She’s a former lawyer and current facilitator for Becoming Beloved Community Episcopal Church MS. Nearing Vicksburg is an excerpt from her memoir-in-progress on re-discovering the truths of her Mississippi family and herself. Ellen splits her time between the Gulf Coast, Memphis, and New Orleans where she can frequently be found in costume.
