People are losing faith in democracy throughout the Western Hemisphere. Support for democracy has declined by almost 10 percentage points since 2004. The 2021 round of AmericasBarometer offers important insights into what’s driving declining support for democracy in the region.
Elizabeth J. Zechmeister and Noam Lupu
Elizabeth Zechmeister is a Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Political Science and the Director of the Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP). Her research and teaching focuses on comparative public opinion and political behavior. Noam Lupu is an Associate Professor of Political Science and the Associate Director of LAPOP Lab at Vanderbilt University. He studies comparative political behavior, partisanship and political parties, class and inequality, representation and legacies of violence.
