David L. Di Maria
Dr. David L. Di Maria is currently the Vice Provost for Global Engagement at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Previously, he served as Associate Provost for International Programs at Montana State University, Director of International Programs and Services at Kent State University and Assistant Director of International Student and Scholar Services at St. Cloud State University.
As an international education scholar-practitioner, Dr. Di Maria regularly presents, publishes and consults on critical issues impacting international higher education. He is the author or editor of four books, and he has written more than 50 articles, book chapters, essays and technical publications focused on international education. Dr. Di Maria is also an active member of the editorial and review boards of various academic journals focused on international education.
Dr. Di Maria previously served on the American Council on Education's Commission on Internationalization and Global Engagement, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities' Executive Committee of the Commission on International Initiatives, and he is a former president of AIRC: The Association of International Enrollment Management. In 2022, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to serve on the Maryland/D.C. District Export Council as a representative of the education and training services sector and continues to serve in that role. He is also a recipient of NAFSA: Association of International Educators' Annual Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of International Enrollment Management, and he was named among North America's 50 leading voices in international education by UK-based media organization, The PIE News.
Dr. Di Maria earned a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, where his studies examined internationalization from a P-16 perspective. His scholarly expertise focuses on international student mobility trends, international enrollment management and structures to support internationalization strategies at colleges and universities.
