Charles Vanthournout am a doctoral student in ancient history at the University of Lorraine, under the supervision of Christian-Georges Schwentzel. His dissertation focuses on American Egyptomania, from the end of the 18th century to 1894, and focuses on the ways in which ancient Egypt was mobilized in the political and racial discourses of the American South.
