Camilla Potts tells the story of how she built a relationship with Skylar, one of her high-school students who struggled with mental-health issues.
Camilla Potts
Camilla Potts is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Mississippi Policy Fellow and teaches 9th grade social studies at Thomas E. Edwards Sr. High School in Ruleville, Miss. She is a teacher mentor and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports team leader who focuses on teaching children in the areas of self-awareness, accountability and respect. Potts has also filled the roles of Social Studies PLC Facilitator and Teacher Leadership Team member. She was named Sunflower County Consolidated School District Teacher of the Year, Thomas E. Edwards Sr. High School Teacher of the Year, and one of Indianola’s Chamber of Commerce Educators of the Year. Potts is also a certified youth mental health first aider, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and an avid volunteer in her community. She earned her bachelors in public administration from Mississippi Valley State University, an MPH (specialization in community health) from Walden University and an MAT in secondary education from Delta State University.
