The list of Disney princesses include Jasmine, Mulan and Pocahontas. Now, Maddy will be making her entrance around 2009.

When โ€œThe Lion Kingโ€ was in theaters back in 1994, I watched it and fell in love with it. However, as the years passed, I wondered what the movie would have been like if an African or two was in it since the setting was in Africa. I also thought about how my nieces, and other young black girls, love the Disney Princess line of products and how their self-esteem would get a boost if one of those dolls looked like them. Therefore, when I ran across the article, I was elated to say the least:

NEW ORLEANS โ€“ The Walt Disney Co. has started production on an animated musical fairy tale called โ€œThe Frog Princess,โ€ which will be set in New Orleans and feature the Walt Disney Studioโ€™s first black princessโ€ฆ.

โ€œThe Frog Princess,โ€ a musical scored by composer Randy Newman, is โ€œan American fairy taleโ€ starring a girl named Maddy who lives in the French Quarter in New Orleans, said John Lasseter, chief creative director for Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.

If you look at the drawing of Maddy in the article, you can see that she is beautiful โ€“ no caricatures here. And, is that an Afro puff I see? ๐Ÿ™‚

Disney decided to create this film, which will be hand-drawn, โ€œto show its support for New Orleans, only partially rebuilt 18 months after it was flooded by Hurricane Katrinaโ€ฆโ€ I wish that it didnโ€™t have to take a tragedy for them to decide to make a movie such as this, or at least that is how it looks to me since I do not know firsthand what other future plans Disney had. However, I am still pleased at their decision to make history and produce this film.

Better late than never, right?

Love it ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes! Better late than never! I love her hair. Now if they could ALL be Mulan, not just waiting on a man to save them, and maybe we could beef them all up a little. Usually, a little weight makes them a witch!

You know, that would be cool. How about the first plus-size princess? Put some hips and a badonkeydonk on her, and still have her looking good!
