Oral History Workshop Thurs., May 29, 6 – 9 p.m. The Broadmoor District and the Broadmeadow Neighborhood Assoc. present an oral history workshop at Trinity Presbyterian Church. These organizations seek to document and commemorate the status of the neighborhoods as areas developed for veterans returning from World War II. Topics will include how to prepare for and conduct an interview, how to process the information gathered, and how to use it in presentations and other programs. Oral historian, Larry Morrisey has served as an interviewer and consultant for many oral history projects throughout the state, will lead the workshop. People interested in learning how to document the history of local veterans and others involved in the war effort during World War II are encouraged to attend. Founding Editor Donna Ladd is a writer, journalist and editor from Philadelphia, Miss., a graduate of Mississippi State University and later the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where she was an alumni award recipient in 2021. She writes about racism/whiteness, poverty, gender, violence, journalism and the criminal justice system. She contributes long-form features and essays to The Guardian when she has time, and was the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Jackson Free Press. She co-founded the statewide nonprofit Mississippi Free Press with Kimberly Griffin in March 2020, and the Mississippi Business Journal named her one of the state's top CEOs in 2024.
