Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a great group of students from local high schools who are apart of the Youth Media Project. The Youth Media Project is a collaboration between the Jackson Free Press, the Jim Hill Civil Rights/Civil Liberties (CRCL) club, The Mississippi Youth Justice Project, and the William Winter Institute in Oxford.

The YMP is a youth-led project that analyzes the influence of the media on youth. Over the last several weeks lots of exciting planning has been going on. The YMP is currently looking for more students to join in over the summer and learn video, editing and journalism skills to tell their story.

Lacey, I emailed you but that was before I saw this post. It looks like, from the application, that you want kids who have experience in media already, is that a correct assumption?

Well yes and no. There are lots of training and learning experiences for youth who have no experience but are willing to learn.

What’s the deadline for the application?
