Dr. S apologizes for letting the Jackson Senators’ home opener slip up on him without putting somethng on the Sportsblog. Well, it’s still not too late to talk about their SECOND homestand, which starts against Rio Grande Valley on Friday at 7:05.

The Central Baseball League looks even more interesting this year, thanks to the addition of the Shreveport Sports. The Senators already have a growing rivalry with the Alexandria Aces, but playing the Sports should bring back a lot of memories of the Texas League years for Jackson baseball fans. The baseball is good, the food is delicious, the beverages are cold and the weather isn’t too hot yet. So why aren’t you at Smith-Wills? (Note: attending NCAA regional games in Clinton will be treated as an excused absence.)

Mississippi native Donna Ladd and partner Todd Stauffer founded the Jackson Free Press in 2002 in the capital city. The heavily awarded local newspaper did many investigations heralded across the state and nation and served as a paper of record due to its diversity, inclusion, in-depth reporting and deep connection to readers and dedication to narrative change in and about Mississippi. In 2022, the nonprofit Mississippi Free Press, founded by Ladd and JFP Associate Publisher Kimberly Griffin in 2020, purchased the journalism assets and archives of the Jackson Free Press. A Google grant through AAN Publishers enabled Newspack's integration of the JFP archives into the Mississippi Free Press website to become part of a more searchable archive of recent Mississippi history and essential journalism.
