Thanks to your efforts, MFP’s calendar is packed with parades, block parties, festivals and celebrations happening across the state. At last count, we’re up to over 70 Juneteenth events in counties serving 1.8 million Mississippians (help our event coverage reach 2 million across the state by submitting events we’re still missing here). We already knew Juneteenth was important to Mississippians, but what your quick work on such short notice helped prove to us is that making our statewide events calendar truly statewide is not only viable but worthwhile.

We want our events calendar to be a resource you can use, whether you live in a metro like Jackson, somewhere rural like the Delta or anywhere else in the state. That’s where I come in. I’m Liam, the new Calendar Events Editor. I’m new to this role, but I’ve been freelancing with MFP since we launched (you may know my work on the Trusted Elections Project and the Mississippi Welfare Scandal coverage).

In the coming weeks, I plan to properly introduce myself and my mission in this role, but in the meantime, I wanted to give you a heads up so you don’t miss out on what you’re already helping us accomplish.

We’re using your submissions to put together a special Juneteenth edition of our weekly events newsletter, featuring the celebrations you helped us find and covering events happening across the state starting this weekend and going through the end of next.

Don’t miss it, subscribe here.
