Fannie Lou Hamer, the fearless civil-rights activist from the Mississippi Delta who led the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year. The medal is now on display at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.
