The NAACP is deploying “national, legal, policy, and field staff” to Mississippi amid a razor-thin Senate election, with the intent of assisting the state’s NAACP conference and voters properly cure and count all ballots.
In a statement, National NAACP President Derrick Johnson said in part that “Black voters in Mississippi did everything right. They registered, turned out, stood in line, and cast their ballots. Now the process has to do its part. Our field and legal teams are working around the clock in Mississippi to make sure voters who used provisional ballots are counted.”
Over the next week, the process of publicly counting remaining affidavits, mail in votes and other provisional ballots will continue in county election commission across Mississippi.
