Last time I blogged on here, I mentioned my vacation-oriented Food Court diet disgust and the intense need to buy a Wii Fit. After that went up I went poking online and found a pretty good deal on the Wii Fit setup and ordered it immediately.

A few days later it came in (quick shopping!) and I set it up immediately. I fully expected the game to make fun of my larger American size. I am, after all, a large American. The game ended up being surprisingly polite about the whole thing though and set my account up and explained the functions of the game.

Since then, I have managed to log onto it each day (Nine days and counting!) and do the weigh-in and some workout routines. There are plenty of exercise programs in it including yoga, strength training, full on workouts, and more. It’s a pretty handy thing with the weigh-ins, calorie burning counter, and the ability to add up actual workout time, not just time I’ve been logged into the game.

I managed to unlock two advanced modes on the Island Biking game so far and ‘biked’ 5 miles this morning. That’s solid movement/workout time so… go me!

The Mississippi Free Press produced this story through the MFP Solutions Lab, supported by the Solutions Journalism Network. This series digs into Mississippi’s systemic issues and sheds light on responses to them in other communities. Beyond just reporting on problems, these stories interrogate their causes and inspect potential solutions.

Mississippi native Donna Ladd and partner Todd Stauffer founded the Jackson Free Press in 2002 in the capital city. The heavily awarded local newspaper did many investigations heralded across the state and nation and served as a paper of record due to its diversity, inclusion, in-depth reporting and deep connection to readers and dedication to narrative change in and about Mississippi. In 2022, the nonprofit Mississippi Free Press, founded by Ladd and JFP Associate Publisher Kimberly Griffin in 2020, purchased the journalism assets and archives of the Jackson Free Press. A Google grant through AAN Publishers enabled Newspack's integration of the JFP archives into the Mississippi Free Press website to become part of a more searchable archive of recent Mississippi history and essential journalism.
