Now that the judge is dropping the MBN defamation suit against The Clarion-Ledger, and two of its editors/reporters, the newspaper is telling its readers that it was being sued by the same folks suing Frank Melton. Remember, they did NOT tell readers that back during the mayoral campaign when the paper and the mayor were wound up together in companion lawsuits, or when it endorsed Melton without mentioning this rather pertinent fact. But, now they bring Jerry Mitchell in to admit it after the fact: It’s news when it’s good them, but not when the suit was brought.

Congrats, Ledge, on surviving the suit. Jeers, however, on your dishonesty to date. We’ll hope that you make up for it with better, more fair and more complete coverage of Mr. Melton and city issues from this point forward. And, Mr. Agnew, you still owe the people of Jackson an apology over this one. We’re waiting.

Donna, why do you think they had Jerry Mitchell write this?

‘Cause Ana was …busy?

Now that Melton has launched a full-scale word of words with the C-L in defense his administration and his tactics, pretty much calling them a pack of liars, will the C-L finally respond publicly to his allegations? Fascinating stuff.

Donna, why do you think they had Jerry Mitchell write this? I dunno. Maybe they’re trying to make it look like they were treating it seriously all along? Or maybe he’s now on the Melton beat. As it is. Also heard that Jack Mazarack is moving to another beat and off covering the city. You wouldn’t believe who they tried to hire from another paper for that job, who refused. But I’m not going to tell you. You can probably figure it out, though. One hint: It wasn’t me. Tee, hee.

Now that Melton has launched a full-scale word of words with the C-L… Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. All that publicity he got from them, and he does this?

Mr. Melton seems to expect that media will do and say everything exactly the way he wants — if not, they’re the enemy. Sounds like a great subject for a keynote speech to journalists, eh?

Mr. Melton seems to expect that media will do and say everything exactly the way he wants — if not, they’re the enemy. Sounds like a great subject for a keynote speech to journalists, eh? That’s why I hope he just talks about journalism and nothing else. However, in a room full of journalists, someone is bound to ask him something off-topic, right?

I kind of wonder what he would say about journalism? It’s not as if his “Bottom Lines” were always fact-based. He doesn’t respect the public’s, and the media’s, right to know what public officials are doing, what they make, how many arrests they’re making, and so on. He believes journalists can lie under oath, for goodness sake. What exactly is he going to talk to a roomful of “journalists of faith” about!?!
