Italian for “to jump on a bench,” Cirque du Soleil’s production of “Saltimbanco” interprets the many facets of the urban experience. Whether that experience applies to Mississippi is irrelevant; Cirque du Soleil isn’t really known to be literal. Instead the dancers and other performers create lush, vivid, allegorical pieces for audiences not only to enjoy, but also to ponder. Boasting a baroque visual style, this show includes jugglers, magical creatures, acrobats and strong men. If you’re hesitant to make the road trip, do it anyway. We all need to awaken our imaginations every now and then.
