GULFPORT, Miss.—A new women’s group is forming in Gulfport, aiming to build new friendships and social connections in an exclusive space where participants can become more involved in their community.
Stephanie Houston, owner of Gulfport Girlies, said she previously organized a similar women’s group before moving to Gulfport.
“I wanted to create a space for the girls over 21 to have an outlet,” Houston said. “The good thing is I’ve actually created a group about three years ago in Hawaii and it’s thriving.”
Gulfport Girlies will launch Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. at the Biloxi Boardwalk. The group is open to women 18 and older for outdoor activities, while other activities will be limited to those 21 and older.
Houston said she hopes to attract members to attend activities and maintain connections closer to home.
Houston said those interested can contact her through Facebook.
“There’s no fee. It’s completely free and if they’re willing to make the drive, we’d love to have them,” Houston said. “It’s a safe environment, and we only want it for people that are going to be respectful, nice and not shame anybody.”
