North Mississippi Bureau Reporter
Ahmer A. Khan is a journalist, legal researcher, and educator whose work sits at the intersection of journalism, law, elections and public‑interest communication. He holds an M.A. in Journalism and an LL.M. from the University of Mississippi, along with an LL.B. from the University of London. His reporting and research focus on democratic participation, media framing, election administration and the legal structures that shape civic life.
Ahmer has conducted election‑integrity and voting‑rights research with Fair Fight Action, interviewed editors‑in‑chief and senior media leaders across the South as a graduate assistant at the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics, and taught Journalism 101/Mass Communication to more than 100 undergraduate students at the University of Mississippi. His academic work includes research on media framing, public discourse, and peace and justice, and he has presented as a panelist at the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show conference in both 2024 and 2025.
As the North Mississippi Trusted Elections Reporter for the Mississippi Free Press, Ahmer will bring his combined legal and journalism training directly to communities within the bureau during a critical election cycle. His reporting examines candidates, campaigns, election administration, voter access, campaign finance, public records and the policies that shape daily life for North Mississippi residents. In a region deeply affected by the decline of local journalism, Ahmer’s work aims to provide clear, accessible, fact‑based reporting that helps voters understand not only who is running for office, but how elections function, what is at stake and how public officials’ decisions impact their communities.
