Retired civil-rights lawyer Barbara Phillips filed an ethics complaint against Oxford Mayor Robyn Tannehill, then called an unsanctioned meeting of the Oxford Commission on Police Transparency. The mayor and police chief did not run this meeting as they usually do.
A Hinds County judge today dismissed all charges against two of three Jackson Police Department officers charged with the second-degree murder of George Robinson in January 2019. Robinson, 62, died days after JPD officers beat him in the Washington Addition neighborhood of the capital city.
Since last week, the date has changed, but policing in America has not. Many organizations will continue to post compelling social-media statuses, touting justice, mourning George Floyd, chanting about small steps and accountability, but George will not applaud. He cannot. Ma’Khia Bryant will not cheer—she cannot. Daunte Wright will not celebrate—he cannot.
