Recently, Pearl River Community College graduate Hanna Lambert received the chance to further pursue her childhood dream of opening her own veterinary practice when she became a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
In Tippah County, Miss., Meagan Cunningham spends her time, treasure and passion saving as many lives as she can—the four-legged kind. With the support of a tiny band of local animal lovers who help as they are able with things like transportation and food, and a few homes that regularly foster the more vulnerable animals, Cunningham is devoted to making a difference for as many dogs and cats (and occasionally pigs, rabbits, and other assorted strays) as she can. But it’s disheartening knowing they can’t save every animal in need.
Mississippi Critterz board member Janice Antonow announced that Oxford’s animal shelter will be closing temporarily after months of rumors, leaks, and photos circulating of sick animals in unhygienic and crowded conditions. “We don’t have specific plans right now for the shelter,” Antonow said March 8. “I do know we’re going to close down, at least temporarily.”
