“I have officiated weddings, assisted in funerals, celebrated new jobs, mourned losses and prayed feverishly for my friends in the city,” Samuel Bolen writes. “I have found my place, and my place is Jackson, Miss.”
Deputy Editor Azia Wiggins expresses her thoughts on being a leader and the necessity of difficulty along the journey. “In the trenches is where leaders can show themselves approved simply because you didn’t shy away from the fight. That fight, that uncomfortability as you grow to deal with devils on new levels, is the foundation of excellence,” she writes.
Christian minister Jason Coker, a native of Shaw, Miss., is looking for other white religious leaders to break their silence and stand up against House Bill 1020 and the revised Capital City Improvement District. “Stand with me and ask our elected officials to pass policy that creates a better future for all Mississippians,” he writes.
Duvalier Malone explains that America’s political system could be on the brink of collapse if our current leaders do not come up with an adequate succession plan to properly fill future leadership positions. “Only then can we ensure that our government is truly representative of the people and that the public’s interests are being served,” he writes.
“Civil Rights era murderers still living among us should be hunted down in the same manner as Nazi War criminals,” Melva L. Bradford writes.
