Cyrus Ben won reelection last night and will serve another term as tribal chief for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is holding elections today from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. for tribal chief and eight seats on the Tribal Council to serve four-year terms.
Dr. Robert Taylor will not continue serving as Mississippi’s state superintendent of education after the Mississippi Senate rejected his nomination by a 21-31 vote on Wednesday, with some Republicans describing him as “woke” or a supporter of so-called “critical race theory.”
As the last days of the 2021 legislative session quickly expire, long-sought efforts to achieve criminal-justice reform through the softening of stiff automatic penalties and expansions in parole eligibility look less and less likely to pass due largely to the late-hour dissension of the state’s law-enforcement organizations.
