“Over the past two decades, a staggering 21.8 million Americans found themselves living within 3 miles of a large wildfire,” Mojtaba Sadegh writes.
“Imagine the government forcing you from your home, being imprisoned in a detention camp under armed guards and behind barbed wire—and then being required to join the military to fight for the nation that had locked up you and your family,” Susan H. Kamei writes. “That’s what happened in a little-known chapter of U.S. history, in which many of those men went on to become American military heroes, some making the ultimate sacrifice.”
“Local and state governments that are suing want to hold the major oil companies responsible for the costs of responding to disasters that scientists are increasingly able to attribute to climate disruption and tie back to the fossil fuel industry,” Patrick Parenteau and John Dernbach write.
