Rogelio V. Solis

Rogelio V. Solis is Mississippi Free Press’ new senior photojournalist. A veteran journalist, Solis most recently served 28 years as the staff photographer with the Jackson bureau of The Associated Press, has covered the state in a variety of capacities, after earning a Mass Communication degree at Jackson State University and a photojournalism degree at the University of Missouri. He worked five years for the weekly newspaper of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson, was senior photographer with the Houma Daily Courier in Louisiana, worked as the primary photographer at the Meridian Star newspaper as well as its Education beat reporter and feature columnist. Solis served three-years as chief photographer for then Gov. Ray Mabus and worked five years as a freelance photographer with The Associated Press before becoming a staffer. Solis was honored earlier this year with a resolution from the MississippiĀ House of Representatives for his tenure and coverage of news, feature and sporting events in Mississippi for 50-years.
