The Social Action Committee of the Jackson (MS) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is using public forums to bring community voices together on issues that affect Mississippians. The forums have focused on topics like health equity, redistricting, voter suppression, supporting gender equality and educational disparities and inequalities.
Mississippi lawmakers sent a bill to Gov. Tate Reeves’ desk today that will raise pay for the average Mississippi teacher by $5,140 this year, with additional future pay raises throughout their careers.
“So many people tell us that we represent the kind of excellence and honesty they didn’t quite think is possible in Mississippi,” Kimberly Griffin writes. “Myth-making and half-truths serve the powerful and encourage the powerless to lobby against themselves or just plain give up. I’m asking you not to give up on Mississippi.”
